Working with Groupware – J.H. Erik Andriessen
Thanks to the generosity of the publisher Springer I got a copy of “Working with Groupware” by J.H. Erik Andriessen. This publisher donated the rest of the books that were not sold on the conference nordiCHI. These books were given to those who contributed to the conference, so also one book to every student volunteer…
So thank you Springer – especially since CSCW is pretty interesting to me!

Don’t forget: Sept. 2009, month of conferences…
September 2009 is quite interesting: 6. – 9. is the “Mensch & Computer” in Berlin and 15. – 18. there will be the MobileHCI in Bonn (http://www.mobilehci09.org/).
[Update:]
Okay, as I just realised: there is also the ECSCW going on (7. – 11. Sept.). From my personal point of view, this is a little to much… well.
NordiCHI – Panel on “Digital Bauhaus”
Good morning!
I am sitting in the panel on the topic “The Digital Bauhaus”. There were two statements sofar, which I find pretty interesting:
1. Art is technology and technology is art (Joan Greenberg)
2. Form follows what ever sells (Kari Kuutti)
3. All that is solid melts into air (Marx and Engels – mentioned by Frieder Nake)
4. The Bauhaus is a myth! Still having an impact.
Weekend at IKDC, Lund
NodiCHI had a great start this weekend: on Saturday there was the doctorial consortia and on Sunday there were lots of workshops and tutorials. During the weekend the we had the pleasure to be in the Ingvar Kamprad Designcentrum (IKDC). Ingvar Kamprad is the founder of IKEA by the way, who actually made this center possible by making a donation. He wanted the center to be named “The Bridge”… a brigde between designers, engineers etc… Well, it seems like besindes the name, this idea worked out realy well

Alby, Stockholm – The vision of a city
Excursion to the suburb Alby with the course “Swedish History and Society”
Since I am very interested learning as much as I can about the Swedes, I am also attending a course about the history and society of Sweden. In the context of this course we are discussing also the history of Stockholm as a city and how it developed. So city planning and its outcome is also an issue we discuss.
In order to get an impression of how visions of city planning were implemented, we made an excursion to Alby. This is an suburb in the south-west of Stockholm, designed to be the perfect place to live at.
In Alby Kerstin Bodström gave us a guided tour through the city she studied for a long time. Here are some pictures to give you an impression of this tour:

Kayak Trip in the archipelago of Stockholm
Tjena tjena! Here are some pictures of the kayak trip on the weekend 22/23 September 08. The pictures are made by Sebastian Prost, who seems to be an excellent photographer!

About the trip: we started our tour in Dalarö, which is in the south of Stockholm. Dalarö is basically directly in the archipelago so therefore one is surrounded by islands right away! Since we had food and water for a weekend with us, we used only kayaks for two persons, which makes it less exhausting to paddle.
On the evening of the first day, we had to find a nice and quiet place, where we could stay over night. This turned out to be a little complicated, since you can’t tell, if there is a good place on an island as long as you are still in the kayak. So we had to stop, get out the kayak, check the island and back in the kayak again… However, we found a perfect place: on a little island, far away from any houses and civilisation. Jan cooked us there on the open fire the best meal one can imagine!
